WASPA Code of Conduct
Members of the Wireless Application Service Providers’ Association (WASPA) and information providers who access mobile consumers through them are bound to comply with the WASPA Code of Conduct. This Code and the accompanying Advertising Rules form a detailed framework for the provision of SMS, USSD, IVR and other services in South Africa.
The WASPA Code has a particular focus on subscription services, but also covers contact services, commercial messaging, competitions and child-oriented services.
Complaints raised under the WASPA Code are referred to an independent adjudicator if they cannot be informally resolved. Adjudicators have extensive powers to sanction providers found to have breached the provisions of the Code.
Ellipsis has extensive experience in the adjudication of complaints and can advise WASPs and information providers on all aspects of compliance with the Code.
